history

Canyon Oaks Preschool changed its name four years ago. Formerly known as the Sunny Skies Preschool, Canyon Oaks will soon be celebrating twenty years of service to the Agoura community.

program

Canyon Oaks believes that the preschool child's natural vehicle for learning is play. The director and staff have created a curriculum that aims to stimulate each child's intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Children participate in organized morning circle activities followed by structured and unstructured center time including science, manipulative play, cooking and art activities. The activities in each center change as the children grow and develop in their skills. Outdoor play activities provide children with the opportunity to build large muscle skills and coordination. Groups can be seen riding bikes, climbing, sliding and digging in the sand box. Children also visit the school's petting farm. Groups reconvene in circle time for stories, music, singing and sharing. Good nutrition and rest are also a part of the program. Children are provided a mid- morning snack and parents are encouraged to send healthy lunches from home.

Special subjects

"Mad Science" and music classes are offered weekly.

facility

As the name implies Canyon Oaks Preschool sits on a 22 acres of land, remarkably forested with oak trees. Aside from providing plenty of space to roam, the school is a virtual animal reserve. When you cross the bridge to enter the property, you are greeted by ducks and pelicans in the creek below. The school has a petting farm which includes a donkey, a pig, sheep, bunny rabbits and chickens. The school has 3 playgrounds, biking trails and more. For the kids who could stay outside forever, (when you see this place you will understand why) classrooms open onto outdoor work areas that are set up with art and manipulatives giving children the alternative to work inside and out.

parents

Parent involvement both inside and outside of the classroom is strongly encouraged. The Classroom volunteer program and Parent Association provide parents with endless opportunities to be involved in the school program.

parent feedback

If only I could have attended a preschool like this when I was a kid! This is my daughter’s last semester at Canyon Oaks. She is happy and thriving. Who could ask for more? It's sad to move on. It's a sweet program, but if you are interested in your child getting academics and homework, this is probably not the place for you…children do learn a whole lot more than just their ABC’s. My older son went to Canyon Oaks too. He is in a rigorous private elementary school now and I feel like he was as prepared for that as any other child. It was important for me that my children enjoy being small children. Canyon Oaks allowed them to do that, so I was happy.

Make Well Informed Choices We have sought to ensure that the information on this site is as accurate as possible. Keep in mind, however, that a preschool is a dynamic environment, and is continuously growing and changing to best meet the needs of its students. A preschool's admissions policies and deadlines, class sizes, locations, school ownership, program directors, age cut-offs, tuition costs, programs and accreditation status do change. We encourage you to verify the accuracy of this and other important information with the individual preschools. Ask the preschool director or representative for the most current admissions procedures, deadline dates and fee structure. Reconfirm everything, before making any nonrefundable deposits or signing any contracts!

We engaged an extraordinary group of professionals, parents, friends and family (thanks mom) to edit these profiles. Please forgive us in advance for any errors and do not hesitate to contact us, so that we can make corrections right away.
